KONE Corporation and PGA European Tour player Mikko Ilonen have signed a three-year sponsorship extension. The agreement will cover the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons.
“Once again, we are very excited to support and work with Mikko for the next three seasons,” says Tuomas Kahri, KONE Senior Vice President for Marketing and Quality. “KONE pursues excellence in the same way a professional golfer seeks improvement in his game. By collaborating with one of the best golfers in the world today, we are providing the company with a great platform for its key customer activities and showcasing the KONE brand on a global scale at the same time.”
"I’ve always believed that having a long term approach and a focused attitude were the keys to achieving, both in golf and business, “says Mikko Ilonen. “Last year’s co-operation with KONE was very successful on several fronts, and I trust it was just the beginning. Expectations are high for the coming seasons and I look forward to exceeding them."
Born in Lahti, Finland, Mikko Ilonen turned pro in 2001 after winning the 2000 Amateur Championship at Hoylake, Liverpool. He immediately showed enormous potential by finishing in ninth position behind David Duval in 2001 at the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes. Mikko was the first Finnish golfer to renew a PGA European Tour card and play in a Major tournament. He won his much desired first victory in February at the 2007 Indonesian Open and repeated victory at the Scandinavian Masters last August. He is currently ranked number 63 in the world.
