KONE wins 5 year maintenance contract at Heathrow

December 14, 2011

KONE in the UK has been appointed to a five year maintenance contract for all five terminals at London’s prestigious Heathrow Airport encompassing more than 700 units comprising of lifts, escalators and moving walkways.

The contract covers inclusive maintenance which will be undertaken during the night and reactive repairs 24/7.

KONE has worked at Heathrow, which is operated by BAA, for more than a decade. KONE has recently delivered a successful handover at T5C, the second satellite building at Terminal 5 and secured an order to supply 40 lifts, 18 escalators and 12 autowalks to the satellite building T2B of Heathrow Airport's new Terminal 2 which will open to passengers in 2014.

Handling more than 1 million passengers each month, London Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world.  Once T2B is completed Heathrow Airport will welcome an estimated 20 million passengers per year through its terminals each year.

Peter Gill, Infrastructure & Escalator Director for KONE said:  “The Airport has recognised KONE’s positive performance and track record to date and our continued efforts in applying innovative and energy-efficient solutions to meet its needs.

“The bid panel was also impressed with the evident input of our HR, Health and Safety and Quality departments to the tender, our understanding of Heathrow’s vision and its needs and how we had tailored our offer both on a technical and commercial level to help it achieve these goals.
