Under one roof

Vienna International Airport is an important hub for travelers heading to Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The Skylink expansion included a new pier for up to 17 aircraft in parallel and a new terminal with shops and restaurants.

The innovative design of the Skylink Terminal reduces transfer times to as low as 25 minutes, and increases the airport’s total annual capacity to 28 million passengers.

Shaping the future

Passenger flows were carefully planned to ensure distances remain manageable for travellers both in terms of comfort and time.

To facilitate an enjoyable people flow experience, we installed solutions including lifts, escalators and autowalks. Our new installations nearly double the number of KONE units already installed at the Vienna International Airport.

The project was a challenge not only for the sheer number of installations but from the time perspective. The entire effort was put on hold temporarily, but, after much re-planning, the expansion project was finally restarted after four years.

The new terminal is a beautiful addition to a first-class airport and our solutions fit in seamlessly.

"With perfect teamwork, good preparations, and exact calculations, we were able to complete this project exceptionally fast", says Markus Veit, Project Manager at KONE Austria.
