KONE Corporation, press release, March 21, 2013

KONE has been awarded a contract by Construction Santé Montréal, a Laing O'Rourke and OHL Canadian joint venture, to install a total of 77 elevators and escalators throughout the new Université de Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM) in Montreal. KONE was chosen for its expertise in managing the flow of people and materials throughout complex hospital environments, and solutions that will enhance the hospital's patient-centered design and spatial efficiencies.

As part of the contract, KONE will install 45 energy-efficient KONE EcoSystem MR(TM) elevators, 14 KONE MonoSpace® machine-room-less elevators and 12 KONE TravelMaster(TM) 110 escalators, as well as four dumbwaiters and two purchased hydraulic elevators. Ten of the elevator controls will be equipped with control integration for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), to ensure deliveries of service, food, linens, and medical supplies are efficiently conducted during light traffic hours. In addition, the hospital's elevators and escalators will be equipped with the KONE E-Link monitoring system. The contract includes a long-term maintenance contract.

"KONE is pleased to provide energy-efficient elevator and escalator solutions that will assist with CHUM's patient-centered design," said Larry Wash, EVP for KONE Americas. "Our extensive research and focus on this area will enable patients, hospital staff, and visitors to move smoothly and safely throughout the hospital."

The new 230,000-square-meter facility is expected to serve over 400,000 patients a year and includes 772 single-patient rooms, ambulatory and diagnostic centers, surgery, intensive care, clinical laboratories, and a research center. The building is expected to achieve LEED® Silver certification once completed.

KONE will install 66 units during Phase 1 of the project, scheduled to begin at the end of 2013. Phase 1 includes the construction of the fully functioning new hospital, scheduled to open in April 2016. KONE will also deliver 11 units for Phase 2, which includes the completion of an amphitheater, library, and clinical-administrative spaces. Phase 2 is expected to commence in the fall of 2016 with the demolition of the St.-Luc Hospital and be completed in 2020.

The order was booked in the first quarter of 2013.
