What if I lose my phone or key tag?

The building manager or apartment key user can easily and quickly deactivate old digital keys and a new key can be assigned. When a traditional mechanical key is lost, the worst case is that all the locks in the building must replaced and this can be very expensive for the building. Digital keys can be disabled remotely – even from a single user or user group.

What if my mobile phone battery runs out?

“As a backup, you always have a mechanical key or your key chain, and a mechanical key is still required for your own apartment’s door.

What if the building temporarily loses electrical power?

The access system stops working and the building door must be opened manually with a traditional mechanical key.

What if I lose connection to the internet?

User rights are stored and encrypted in your device and thus you still retain secure access.

What technology is used with my mobile phone for opening the door?

Standard wireless Bluetooth connection is used.

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a global wireless standard for connecting devices to each other wirelessly. Examples include cars’ hands-free systems and wireless music speakers/headphones.

What causes the short delay when opening a door with my mobile phone?

Normal opening time varies between 0,5 to 2 seconds. It also depends on the specific mobile phone – software, model of the phone and the number of applications running in background.

How does KONE ensure cybersecurity with regard to its solutions and services?

We recognize cybersecurity challenges of the connected equipment, and apply security on all layers. It's important to us to secure each link of the chain; from developing software to connecting equipment to the cloud, all the way to collecting and using data to improve customer service and end-user experience.

In KONE Residential Flow this means for example that all connections are encrypted, access to all systems is controlled, our cloud interfaces (APIs) are secured, and the solution has been security reviewed. We also maintain our solutions to keep them protected, monitor them to detect anomalies and are prepared to react when needed.

Does the door of the building need to be replaced?

Not necessarily, but an electric strike system may need to be installed. Many outside doors are already equipped with electric strikes. If a building has a PIN-code or intercom for that door – there is most likely already an electric strike in place.

Can you integrate several lifts in the system?

Yes, our system can operate a maximum of eight lifts in same group. It will call the lift to pick up a tenant –whichever is the closest one and free for service.

Can I integrate a third party building automation and remote monitoring system with the solution?

The System has free I/O, which could control lobby lighting for example. Software connections needs to be checked case by case, but it is not a KONE standard offering.

Why can’t we have a fingerprint reader in the access unit?

To have multiple users for same reader would require a lot of processing power and such reading could be unreliable, which could lead to serious frustration. Mobile phones’ fingerprint readers are usually for 1-2 users only, which is why it works well in that context.
For additional security, users can open the door with their own mobile phone, which can then be secured by the user’s own finger print or PIN-code.

Data privacy?

KONE has an internal Personal Data Protection Policy in place and is committed to complying with those requirements as well as all applicable laws. We acknowledge the importance of data protection in this solution and have taken into account the related principles and requirements from the very beginning of developing this system. We have, for example, planned our solution so that the users’ credentials are processed in the system anonymously to the extent possible and not stored longer than needed. What’s more, the solution does not collect more data than needed for the intended purpose (such as phone number and email) and access rights are strictly limited.

Whom do I contact if there are problems?

Regarding chain user rights the user contacts building access admin. For any help related to the system or applications there are extensive help pages on KONE webpages along with contact details.

Can I order more tags, if, for example, these are lost?

Yes. KONE supplies tags as spare parts, which can be ordered via your building facility manager.

Can I personalise the solution?

You can personalise walking time from semi-public doors to the lift, as we know that people are having different walking speeds. Also, you can customize lift automatic pick-up based on your reference – no automatic pick-up; lift arrives to landing; lift arrives to landing and your destination floor is pre-selected. The destination floor default can be set by user.
