KONE Corporation, press release, December 20, 2019
KONE Corporation, a global leader in the lift and escalator industry, has won an order to supply a suite of People Flow® solutions including KONE UltraRope® revolutionary hoisting technology to 8 Bishopsgate, a new 50-storey office high-rise building in the City of London. The stacked block design rising up to 200 metres reflects the urban culture of London and enables the creation of terraces and outdoor spaces. The tower will include a public viewing gallery, with two lifts dedicated to swiftly bringing visitors up to level 50.
Altogether KONE will deliver 19 eco-efficient KONE MiniSpace™ lifts of which 15 are double-deck lifts using the revolutionary KONE UltraRope® carbon fibre based hoisting technology. One group of four will travel at speeds up to 8.0 m/s. During construction, KONE JumpLift™ solutions will be utilised to speed up construction time on site. In the podium, two KONE MonoSpace® 700 elevators and two KONE TransitMaster™ 110 escalators will ease the people flow. The building will be equipped with KONE E-Link™, a facility management tool designed to secure the best possible tenant service quality, and advanced KONE Destination control system for reduced waiting and traveling times. KONE InfoScreens will provide a quick and easy way to deliver multimedia information inside the elevators and improve guidance inside the building.
8 Bishopsgate will be certified with the BREEAM Excellent Standard, a green building certification system.
"We are looking forward to working with our supply chain partner KONE on the landmark 8 Bishopsgate scheme," says Nick Jarman, Project Director at Stanhope Plc.
"I am very proud of the trust placed in us and being a key part of constructing 8 Bishopsgate. We are happy that our strong relationships and track record of reliable deliveries for previous projects in the City have led to the possibility of making people flow even smoother for such an impressive high-rise building in London," says Thomas Hinnerskov, Executive Vice President for KONE Central and North Europe.
The project is being constructed by Lend Lease. Stanhope Plc is developing the project in partnership with Mitsubishi Estates, funder and building owner. Other project partners include architect WilkinsonEyre, technical consultant Arup and construction cost consultants Alinea Consulting.
Construction commenced in March 2019 and 8 Bishopsgate is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
KONE booked the order in the third quarter of 2019.
